Words can’t describe how amazing sunrise elopements are. Not going to lie, it’s hard getting up that early. But from my perspective as an adventure elopement photographer, it’s always 100% worth it in the end! For Corrinne and Carson, Donner Lake Overlook turned out to be the perfect backdrop for their intimate celebration. Have a look at more details and photos from their sunrise elopement!

This overlook is tucked into the Sierra Nevada Mountains and gives you sweeping views of Donner Lake down below. It’s easy to access, yet feels tucked away, which makes it perfect for couples who want epic scenery without a long hike. Corrinne and Carson even had their family and friends join them. And yes, Grandma made it up the rocks to the ceremony site before sunrise!

The area stays pretty busy year-round, but mornings are calm and quiet, especially in the summer. That’s when we love it most for elopements. After your ceremony, you can explore the Donner Lake Loop, a 7-mile trail that circles the lake, or head into Truckee for a cozy meal or drinks with your friends and family. Since we’re locals, we’ve got plenty of recommendations to make your day feel like the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.

Corrinne and Carson made the most of their time with a mix of family moments, exploring, and a little celebrating. Here’s a look at their sunrise elopement timeline:
It’s amazing what you can fit into a few hours when you start at sunrise! Of course, if early mornings aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other ways to plan a Donner Lake Overlook elopement. We love helping our couples plan the perfect elopement for them, from the timeline to the music.

Corrinne and Carson’s ceremony was simple and sweet. About fifteen of their closest family and friends gathered to watch. Lee, my husband, officiated the ceremony as the sun rose over the mountains and Donner Lake. (We also offer officiating and music services for couples who want that built into their day.)
After vows and a few happy tears, we took photos with their friends and family before heading to grab a few of Corrinne and Carson with Rainbow Bridge in the background. The soft morning light warmed everything around us and made for stunning photos!
We helped Corrinne and Carson plan a picnic with a view, so they could linger after the ceremony and enjoy their first moments as newlyweds. We love when couples take time to slow down like this. It’s a chance to breathe, soak in the moment, and enjoy being newly married. Their spread came with the best view as the sun rose.
