As a Lake Tahoe engagement photographer, I feel blessed to be able to photograph couples in all the amazing backdrops the lake has to offer. From the epic mountain views, to the beautiful beach sunsets, it really has everything you could want for adventure feel photos!
In this guide, I’ll walk you through the best time of year to plan your session, my go-to locations around the lake, and what it’s like to work together so you can feel confident and excited heading into your shoot.
In this guide, I’m sharing:
After traveling the country for more than 10 years and exploring all the amazing National Parks in the US, Tahoe found a special place in my heart! It’s actually considered one of the most romantic places in the US, which is why so many couples choose to propose or do their engagement photos here.
As a Lake Tahoe engagement photographer, I have explored pretty much all around the lake and have my favorite locations I recommend to couples. Not to mention, for the more adventurous couples, I have those off-the-beaten-path hiking locations as well!
One of the best things about taking engagement photos in Lake Tahoe is that it looks beautiful all year long. But depending on what kind of vibe you’re going for, some seasons might work better than others.
Winter in Tahoe feels quiet and cozy. If you’re up for chilly weather and snow-covered trees, it can make for some epic photos. Just keep in mind that many locations require a little extra effort to get to in the snow. But if you’re down for that, it’s totally worth it.
Spring can be a bit unpredictable weather-wise, but it’s also one of the quieter times around the lake. Some higher trails might still have snow, but you’ll start to see more color as the wildflowers begin to pop. It’s a peaceful time for an engagement session if you want to avoid the crowds.
Summer is the most popular season in Tahoe, and for good reason. The days are long, the light is golden, and you can actually dip your toes in the lake if you want. It’s the perfect time for beachy engagement sessions or mountain views without snow in the background.
Fall is my personal favorite. The air is crisp, the light is soft, and the trees start to show off their color. Some trails get bright yellow aspens that look amazing in photos. Plus, the summer crowds start to thin out, which means more space to explore.
No matter when you visit, Lake Tahoe always brings something special. I help couples plan around lighting, location access, and weather so we make the most of whatever season you choose, so don’t worry!
There’s no shortage of gorgeous spots around Lake Tahoe, but here are a few of my go-to locations for engagement sessions. Whether you want beachy, woodsy, or something with a little hike, there’s something here for everyone.
This spot is popular, and for good reason. The clear water, smooth boulders, and soft golden light make it feel like a dream. It’s best on weekdays or early mornings to avoid the crowds, but when you time it right, it’s magic.
If you’re hoping for a beach session with mountain views, this is one of the best spots on the lake. The shoreline feels wide open, and the sunsets here are always incredible. It’s easy to get to and doesn’t require a hike, which makes it great if you want a relaxed session.
For couples who want a little adventure, Monkey Rock is such a fun pick. It’s about a mile uphill, but the view at the top is totally worth it. You get that epic overlook of the lake, plus the rock itself is a cute spot to sit or climb on.
This location gives a different feel. It’s calmer and tucked away. The wooden pier over the lake is so scenic, and the trees nearby give the photos a cozy, forested backdrop. It’s especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves start to change.
This one’s also a little more low-key, but I love it. It’s a roadside stop with a short trail that opens up to the most stunning cliffside views. It’s usually less crowded than some of the other spots, which makes it perfect for a quiet, intimate session.
I always tell couples to wear something that feels like you! Choose outfits you’re comfortable in and that move well, especially if we’ll be hiking or sitting on rocks. Neutrals work great in nature, but if you want a pop of color, I say go for it! I’m always available to chat about outfits before the session so you feel ready and confident.
When you work with me, my goal is to make the whole experience easy, fun, and true to you. I’ll help you pick a location that fits your vibe, guide you through the session so you never feel awkward, and keep things relaxed the whole time. I’ve photographed couples all around Lake Tahoe and know the best times of day, secret spots, and how to handle whatever the weather decides to do.

Hi, I am going to propose to my girlfriend 11/30 and wanted a quote on some candid shots and then some photos of the two of us. I also would appreciate suggestions on some pretty spots to pop the question.
