If you’re dreaming of a wedding right on the shores of Lake Tahoe with clear blue water, granite boulders, and mountain views in every direction, a Sand Harbor wedding might be exactly what you’re looking for.
Located on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, Sand Harbor is one of the most scenic and accessible places to get married in the area. It offers a rare combination of beach access, mountain backdrops, and built-in reception space, all within one location.
As a Lake Tahoe wedding and elopement photographer who works here often, I’ve helped couples plan everything from private ceremonies to small weddings with 50 guests. Below is everything you need to know before booking your Sand Harbor wedding or elopement.

Sand Harbor is ideal for couples who want:
Unlike many public ceremony locations around the lake, Sand Harbor allows structure. You can bring chairs and an arch. And, you can decorate intentionally. That flexibility makes it feel more like a traditional wedding venue while still being outdoors and scenic.

This is one of the most important things to know: Sand Harbor requires a reservation. Only one wedding per day is allowed, and dates sell out early, especially for peak months.
If you’re considering a Sand Harbor wedding, I highly recommend securing your date as soon as possible. Because only one group is allowed per day, you won’t be competing with another ceremony happening nearby. That privacy is a huge benefit!

Sand Harbor allows groups of up to 50 guests, which makes it perfect for small weddings and larger elopements.
You are allowed:
This is something that sets Sand Harbor apart from many other Lake Tahoe ceremony spots that only allow very small, informal gatherings.

One of the biggest perks of having a Sand Harbor wedding is access to the Ramada, which is the covered gazebo area.
Here’s why couples love it:
That dedicated parking lot makes things much easier for guests and vendors. You’re not trying to coordinate in a public lot.
The Ramada space allows you to host a small reception right after your ceremony. You can bring in catering, keep things casual, or even rent a food truck and have it set up in your reserved parking area.
It creates a relaxed celebration without needing a second venue.

Dogs are allowed at Sand Harbor during the off-season. However, they are not allowed during the summer months. If including your dog is important to you, planning for spring, fall, or winter will give you more flexibility.

Summer at Lake Tahoe is beautiful, but it’s also extremely busy. Personally, I don’t recommend hosting a Sand Harbor wedding in peak summer if you’re hoping for privacy and ease. The park is one of the most popular beach destinations in Tahoe, and foot traffic can be heavy.
Instead, consider:
October, in particular, can be a wonderful time. You still get beautiful scenery and comfortable temperatures, but with fewer crowds.

Sand Harbor is located on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. That means you will need a Nevada marriage license for your ceremony.
Nevada does not have a waiting period, and the process is relatively simple, but your license must be issued in the same state where your ceremony takes place.
If you’re unsure about logistics, I always help my couples walk through this step!

Professional photographers are required to carry a permit to shoot at Sand Harbor. We hold a yearly photo permit, so our couples don’t need to worry about navigating that process separately. It’s already handled by us!
This is something to keep in mind if you’re hiring vendors unfamiliar with the area.
One of the best parts about getting married at Sand Harbor is how easy the flow can be. Because the ceremony and reception space are in the same location, your day can feel calm and connected.
Here are a few ways couples structure their day:
Every wedding looks different, but having everything centralized makes planning much easier.

How many guests can we have?
Up to 50 guests.
Do we need a reservation?
Yes. And only one wedding is allowed per day.
Can we have a reception onsite?
Yes. The Ramada allows for tables, power, grills, and catering setups.
Are dogs allowed?
Only during the off-season.
Do we need a Nevada marriage license?
Yes, because Sand Harbor is in Nevada.
Does our photographer need a permit?
Yes. Professional photography requires a permit. We hold a yearly photo permit, so our couples don’t have to worry about this.

A Sand Harbor wedding is one of the most beautiful ways to get married in Lake Tahoe. It offers structure without sacrificing scenery. You get the lake, the mountains, and a space that works well for both ceremony and celebration.
