Ryan and MJ were one of those 2020 couples that had to cancel their traditional wedding not once, but twice. After they had rescheduled for a 2nd time, they realized they just wanted to make it happen and started researching alternative ways to get married. They ran across adventure elopements and decided that this was definitely something that fit them as a couple! They reached out and were ready to create an epic Big Sur Elopement. These two had never been in Big Sur even though they lived only a few hours away. My husband and I had been there many times and were ready to create the most beautiful and memorable elopement for these two.

Leading up to the elopement we found that the county had shut down again due to covid and we were a little worried that the parks would not be open. When I called the permit office we found out they were not issuing wedding permits in the State Parks, however they were allowing photo permits still. So we planned accordingly. We started the day by doing a first look at the state park and then exploring some of the grounds.

After we left the state park, our plan was to pull off on one of the vista point and do the ceremony there. It ended up being the best decision ever as the spot we found was completely empty and the views amazing! You really can’t beat the backdrops of Big Sure for your ceremony!

Ceremony

For a December wedding in California the weather was perfect! Partly Cloudy and about 50 degrees. It was a little windy on the cliff locations but this created some epic photos and these two were all about the adventure and soaking every bit of the day in. After the ceremony we went back to driving the picturesque Hwy 1 and made our way to the beach. We were going to do their first dance, picnic and sunset photos here. When we got there, the wind and died down and created such a peaceful feeling on the beach. Here, they explored, laughed and adventured. It couldn’t have been a more perfect setting and day for an elopement in Big Sur!

Ryan and MJ’s Elopement day in Big Sur ended up being picture perfect and I would highly recommend this area for any couple looking to explore beaches, cliffs, tall trees and amazing sunsets!
