Greenhorn Ranch is a dude ranch tucked into Northern California’s Lost Sierra, in the town of Quincy. Established in 1962, it’s the perfect mix of rustic and modern. It has towering pine trees, wide open skies, and a lodge that feels both welcoming and stylish. Between the trout-stocked pond, herd of horses, and endless mountain views, it’s easy to see why couples fall in love with this one-of-a-kind venue.
Alyssa and Ryan recently said “I do” here in an intimate pondside ceremony. We documented their day from start to finish and really enjoyed being part of it.

Greenhorn Ranch feels like a true escape. As a husband and wife photographer and videographer duo, we love venues where couples and their guests can settle in for a full weekend together, and Greenhorn Ranch is exactly that kind of place.
From trail rides to fishing to cozy evenings around the fire, there’s a relaxed, adventurous vibe here that makes every wedding feel unique. The backdrop is stunning, but it’s also the atmosphere of the ranch that stands out. It feels welcoming, warm, and full of character.
Weddings at Greenhorn Ranch are all-inclusive, so everything from the event setup to the flowers is covered in the package. Couples can even buy out the entire ranch and turn their wedding into a completely private event.
The ranch is also home to a herd of about 60 horses, including Quarter Horses, Belgians, Haflingers, and Mustangs. Many of these horses were born and raised on the property, and they spend the off-season in a 100-acre pasture, keeping healthy and happy. One of the most unforgettable traditions at Greenhorn Ranch is having the herd gallop in the background during your ceremony. It’s timed perfectly with your vows and creates a breathtaking moment that you and your guests will always remember.
One of the best parts about this venue is the variety. From open lawns and waterfront views to cozy indoor rooms, you can pick the setting that matches your style and guest count.
This is the signature ceremony spot, and it’s hard to beat. Guests are seated by the water, surrounded by pine trees, with the mountains framing the view. It’s serene, natural, and incredibly photogenic.
Many couples choose a tented reception on one of the ranch’s wide lawns. A tent gives you coverage while letting you take advantage of the beautiful surroundings. It works perfectly for dinner or dancing under the stars.
The deck is great for a smaller gathering and has views of the pond and surrounding landscape. It’s ideal for cocktails, dinners, or even a more intimate ceremony.
For couples who want to keep the party going, the Greenhorn Saloon is the spot. It’s rustic and lively, with room for dancing, drinks, and celebrating late into the evening. Some couples also choose to host their cocktail hour here, giving guests a fun and relaxed space to mingle before the reception.
If you prefer something more sheltered, the Lodge offers indoor space. It’s great for backup in case of weather, or for smaller receptions where you want cozier vibes.
Greenhorn Ranch is perfect for couples who want to turn their wedding into a full weekend experience. Guests can stay on the property and enjoy everything the ranch has to offer, such as horseback rides, fishing lessons, skeet shooting, archery, whiskey tastings, and even electric mountain biking.
It’s also convenient. The ranch is only about an hour from Reno International Airport, which makes travel easy for guests flying in.
This venue is especially appealing if you want your wedding to feel like a getaway that is laid back, outdoorsy, but still has plenty of modern touches.
Greenhorn Ranch has so many unique details, and a little extra planning will help you and your guests make the most of the experience.
It’s dog-friendly, so couples who want to include their pup in the celebration are in luck. The ranch is open only during the warmer months, so be sure to choose your date accordingly.
Although most things are included, there are a few items you’ll need to bring yourself, such as the officiant and cake. It’s also smart to double-check lodging availability. The ranch has cozy cabins and lodge rooms, but space is limited, so reserving overflow accommodations in Quincy is a good backup.
When building your timeline, leave buffer time between the ceremony and reception for portraits. The property is large and scenic, and having extra time gives us the chance to explore without feeling rushed.
Your guests will likely appreciate wedding welcome kits. These can include trail maps, suggested activities, and useful items like hats, sunscreen, and bug spray. You can also add a small itinerary so everyone knows the weekend schedule and can plan their time accordingly.
If you don’t opt for a full ranch buyout, pricing is as follows:
